The Quicksilver EMG-6 test flight #4. The rope breaks on launch. In this video we look at the video sequences as the aircraft goes through a normal launch but experiences a failure of the tow line at 200 feet above the ground.

EMG-6 Test Flight #3 

In this video we look at a compilation of the events that took place during test flight number 3. The initial test flights are being conducted by towing the aircraft aloft using a four wheeler and most of the flights to date are simple low altitude flights to validate flight characteristics. On this flight we obtained an altitude of 390 feet AGL.

This aircraft is being test flown as a part 103 legal ultralight. Although the aircraft has a small electric motor it will not be operated with power untill after we have established all of the data necessary to validate the flight characteristics as a pure glider. Within the coming weeks we will be reconfiguring the aircraft to upgrade the aerodynamic characteristics and testing each segment as we make improvements so that we may identify the performance improvement after each change to the aircraft. Once we have validated all of the glider characteristics we will begin testing the electric motor, motors.

Electric power and the EMG-6


The EMG-6 aircraft was designed from the onset to be able to leverage the new electric technologies that are being developed. In the very early stages of development we identified the primary difficulty being associated with the pace of development with electric motors, controllers, and batteries. The aircraft was designed with this in mind. The intent of the aircraft was to be able to adapt to the changing technology allowing for the newest of technologies to be bolted to the aircraft as sub-assembly powerplant packages. The airframe has been designed to be able to accept multiple different powerplant options.
